blogging mistake
Are you making this blogging mistake?

In high school we were taught to write so prim and proper. To write a paper we picked a topic, listed key points, then created an outline, then wrote sentences and paragraphs, then ordered them, then proof-read and edited, blah blah!

BORING, right?!

Quite a few years back I had a blog and I wrote the way I was taught. My posts were detailed and I spent so much time making sure everything was proper. Needless to say, that blog didn’t last long because I found it tedious writing essays every other day! That was my blogging mistake!

Now the internet is a fast-paced world full of busy digital natives and an abundance of Gen Z’ers who don’t care about your grammar! So how do you attract these modern day viewers to your blog?

Here are three helpful points to remember when writing a blog post:

  • Your readers are scrolling and clicking in the blink of an eye. A wall of text is not eye-catching so keep your paragraphs short! Use line breaks often to make reading easier. Use bold and italics to break up the monotony of text. Use bullet points like I am here. See a great example of short paragraphs here.
  • Let loose and relax! Write as if you were talking to a friend. It’s ok to use slang or jargon. Today the blogging competition is fierce so you need to be relatable. Also, writing in a laid-back manner is way more enjoyable! Read a great example of laid-back writing here.
  • Be confident! Don’t use weak words like perhaps, possibly, maybe, or might. If somebody is reading your blog, they’ve already shown an interest in you so make them trust you with firm and confident wording. See an example of confident writing here.

The more you do something the better you will get. Keep writing and keep posting; your audience will find you!
