So maybe this headline was just a grab for your attention! I can’t tell you how to become famous on social media BUT I have some tips on being successful. You don’t need millions or even thousands of followers, you just need the right people to know who you are! For example, if you’re a party planner in Orange County, it won’t matter if you’re a household name in New York. Or if you own women’s fitness club, you won’t need to reach men. However, being popular with the right audience can make all the difference.
Tips for ensuring the right people know who you are:
1. Specialize!
It’s easier to become well-known if you’re extremely good at one niche. Get good at something specific. For example, keeping with our party planner example, it’s okay to be a general party planner in Orange County. But it’s EXCELLENT to be a party planner that specializes in birthdays on the beach! Narrowing down your niche helps you attract a specific audience which is more beneficial than attracting a wide and varied audience.
2. Find your target audience.
With that being said, now figure out… Who are you trying to help? What does your ideal customer look like? Develop a composite of the types of people you want to reach. Are they a certain age? Male, female, or both? Where do they live? What profession are they in? What hobbies do they have? It’s important to know who you’re trying to reach so you can avoid wasting time with those who aren’t interested.
3. Identify what they want.
What is your audience looking for? What do they need? What is the common problem they have? A successful business solves a problem or satisfies a need. Center your message around this need and consistently share the ways you will help and solve it. Keep your content entertaining, educational, and valuable.
4. Become an authority.
When people want their problem solved, they look for an expert. Consider these ideas to position yourself as an expert in your niche:
- Create an online class on a platform like Udemy. People will see you as knowledgeable if you’re teaching a course you created.
- Post content on social media and your website regularly. It’s SO important to be consistent! Consistency shows that you are reliable and helps you appear established.
- Create a profile on LinkedIn. LinkedIn is specifically for professionals, and networking there can help you reach your ideal audience.
- Write a book. It’s not as daunting as it seems! It only takes a few pages a day to write a book within months. Did you know there’s no expense for creating a Kindle book?
5. Make friends with experts in your field.
You can find larger audiences and become famous on social media by association! Interview experts in your industry. Collaborate with them. Find respected blogs and offer to write guest posts. Or ask to be a guest on a podcast in your niche. This will help get you noticed by their audiences.
We all want to become famous on social media!
But rather than chasing a near-impossible goal, remember it’s more beneficial to earn fame within a small niche than it is to earn fame in general. The right audience can go a long way toward building your career or business.
Thanks!
